Upcoming events in January 2022

There are several events taking place this January in Petersfield with topics covering gardening, home retrofit and present swapping!  Find out about them here.

Christmas Present Exchange

Drop off unwanted presents to Winton House any week day from now until Friday 14th January between 9:30 and 15:30.  Return to choose your new present on Saturday 15th January between 9.30 and 12 noon.

What if someone gives you something you don't want? PeCAN is teaming up with Winton House to organise a present exchange for unwanted Christmas gifts. Bring your unwanted presents (not charity shop goods) to Winton House in the first half of January and get a token in exchange.  Come back on 15th January and pick a new present.

The aim is to reduce wastage and provide a route for nice but unneeded gifts to find a new home where they will be more appreciated.  This is a project by the community for the community.

Every time you reuse, regift, repair or recycle something, you are helping to reduce the 3.8 tonnes of CO2 that are consumed every year per household in Petersfield from the production and transportation of goods.

To find out how else you can reduce emissions in your household, take the ‘One Tonne Challenge’.

Online Q&A: Subsidies and heat pumps

Thursday 13th January - 19:30, online, register here for link to join

With the onset of increasing wholesale gas prices many are looking at ways to make their homes more efficient to help reduce heating bills and lower their carbon footprint. One way to do this is by installing a heat pump, but it often hard to find truly independent expert advice, which is why we are holding a virtual Heat Pump Q&A.

Our panel of experts aim to explain the Pro's and Con's of heat pumps, if they are right for you and your home as well as the government subsidies that are available.

Join us for 90 mins online to just listen in or ask questions of our panel of experts.

Gardening in the climate and biodiversity crisis - a talk for gardeners by Melanie Oxley

Thursday 13th January - 19:30, Herne Farm Leisure Centre GU31 4PJ

Our own homes and gardens can offer vital refuge for struggling wildlife. Whether it is window boxes planted for pollinators, ponds and bird boxes, or wildflower mini meadows – these smaller spaces across our villages and town are all essential to creating a strong, connected Nature Recovery Network.

Petersfield Gardeners Club is holding a talk this Thurs evening to help you make your garden wilder!  It is free to members of Petersfield Gardener's Club, and visitors to pay £2 entry. If you would like to attend please contact [email protected]
