You will be seeing more of this logo around town soon; Petersfield Climate Action Network more commonly known as PeCAN will be hosting a stall at the Petersfield Farmers Market on 6th June to celebrate its official launch as a new environmental charity.
PeCAN was formed due to the growing evidence that many people in the area are concerned about environmental issues and are passionate about being involved in taking action. PeCAN’s aims are to reduce carbon emissions in Petersfield and the surrounding villages, mitigate the effects of climate change on the natural environment and increase biodiversity.
With 240 people now on our mailing list and charity status achieved in December 2020, we are really looking forward to finally meeting people in person on 6th June. PeCAN volunteers have been busy developing projects and supporting ideas which will lead to decarbonisation and support nature. PeCAN is also advertising for a full time Project Officer - check out their website and Facebook page for details.
Come along to the stall to find out about our projects, how you can get involved either as a participant, supporter or volunteer and bring your ideas about what you would like to see happening in Petersfield.
You will be able to learn about the energy efficiency of your home and what you can do to improve this, in turn saving money on energy bills. We can tell you which energy companies are `The Greenest’, all of which help to reduce your carbon emissions.
There will be information about our campaign for wild verges and the ongoing campaign to move to a pesticide-free Petersfield. You will be able to find out what you can do for wildlife in your garden including reducing mowing, using peat free compost, making a pond and planting for pollinators. We will be giving away some free wildflower seed to create a wild patch.
Sign up for a fruit tree to plant in your garden later in the year, and learn about the Bicycle Buddies scheme in Petersfield and the importance of active travel for improving local air quality and healthA future project is to glean fruit to stop waste and plant more trees in town.
Come and discuss ideas to reduce your carbon footprint, take the PeCAN pledge and find out about the carbon footprint in your Parish.
The group plans to reveal details of its exciting new SuperHomes Petersfield project.
With the COP26 summit taking place in Glasgow in November and the Government’s new target to achieve a reduction of 78% carbon emissions by 2035, we all need to be doing our bit to reduce our carbon footprint. If you would like to find out how you personally can reduce carbon emissions in Petersfield or have ideas for projects you would like to see happening in your town, please make a date to come to talk to us at the PeCAN stall on Sunday 6th June.
