The first phase of the works was undertaken in August 2022 with the installation of new double-glazed windows, doors, cladding and soffits as well as new external stairs for improved safety. Consideration of the second phase of the works also commenced in 2022 with investigations into solar opportunities, EV charging points and alternative heating systems to replace the gas boiler and radiators.
An application to the SDNPA for a CIL grant of £50,000 towards the project was also successful in 2022, to supplement a reserve fund which the Parish Council had been prudently building over a number of years.
Feedback about infra-red heating systems in a number of village halls elsewhere in the country was gathered, leading to the conclusion to adopt this alternative method of heating.
Expressions of interest were sought from a range of potential contractors, leading to a shortlist of four who were all interviewed and the appointment of the successful tenderers, Executive Windows & Construction Ltd., in September 2024.
January 2025 has seen the installation of over ninety 450W solar panels, additional roof insulation, battery storage, the infra-red heating system, two EV charging points and improved lighting controls. Detailed project management from local residents with expertise in overseeing construction projects has proved invaluable throughout all the processes.
As well as funding from the SDNPA CIL award and the Parish Council’s own reserves, it was possible to utilise a direct CIL payment (the ‘Neighbourhood Portion’) which had been received as a result of development taking place in the parish.
It is hoped that the benefits from both stages of the work will last for many years to come.
Congratulations to Buriton on this achievement!
