Over the last four winters PeCAN has distributed over 1900 fruit trees for gardens around East Hampshire and nearly 3km of hedging. With your help, this year we aim to plant 700 new trees across East Hampshire.
Each fruit tree costs just £12.50 and comes with a stake and instructions on how to plant. Trees are all 2-year old bare root bush trees (a young tree that has been pruned back in the first winter to form a bush shape). These trees usually cost between £25 - £35 but thanks to our partners you can buy them at a subsidised price. This project has received funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
There is a limited stock of each variety - types available this year include apple, pear, plum, cherry, apricot, crab apple and filbert. We ask that you order no more than five trees per household, so that this fantastic deal can be widely shared.
Collections will take place on the morning of Saturday 22nd February at pick up points across the district in Petersfield, Liphook, Rowlands Castle and Alton. When you order your trees you will be able to select your nearest pick up point and exact pick up locations will be sent nearer the time.
If you collect your order from Petersfield Community Garden you will also benefit of our Festival of Trees, where we will be delighted to offer free expert advice, planting, pruning and training demonstrations, and activities for children.
If a group in your area is interested in becoming a distribution point please email [email protected] (must be within East Hampshire District).
Fruit trees offer blossom in spring, a fantastic resource for wildlife and pollinators all year round, carbon dioxide sequestration, and even fruit to eat.
In England alone, the total area of gardens is 459% larger than the total area of the National Nature Reserves, so the potential significance of gardens as a resource for wildlife is clear.
Trees are a beneficial addition to most gardens, but in residential areas they are very important, helping with climate regulation and air filtration, and providing valuable habitats for wildlife. Trees, shrubs and hedges provide nesting places and materials, food sources and cover for a great variety of creatures. With almost half of Britain’s ancient woodland having been destroyed in the last 50 years, the need for these habitats is greater than ever, and you can help by planting a tree in your garden.
A fruit tree also makes a wonderful Christmas gift. Give a gift for the future this Christmas! If you would like a gift certificate to accompany your purchase, please email us with the order confirmation and we will send back a certificate for you to print. All orders will be available for collection on 22nd February.

Feedback from previous years
Thank you very much for organising the event and tree/hedge distribution. It was amazingly-well organised, from the documentation through to the distribution, despite the wet weather that you'd experienced beforehand (evidenced by the mini lake outside the gate!). Please pass on my thanks to the total team, who worked professionally and slickly to get all the orders out there - mine are safely in the ground now - though not too thrilled about the frost this morning! - Chris Sangster
