Get stuff fixed for the holidays at Petersfield Repair Café!

The summer holidays are upon us. Parents and grandparents alike will be looking forward to time with hyperactive toddlers, excited children and laconic teenagers. Bikes and garden games will be dragged back out of sheds, toys, games and playstations will come in for heavy use, and paddling pools and sandpits will be filled.

But of course fuses will have blown, tyres deflated and brakes worn, leaks discovered, cracks appeared, bits fallen off. Shorts and t shirts will have rips and holes.

So, this is the perfect time to bring broken or damaged items to the Repair Café Summer Holiday Special on Saturday 25th July. We have experts in sewing and patching, gluing things together, adjusting brakes and fiddling around with electronics and IT. If we can’t fix it or show you how, we can certainly give you some advice about what to do next.

Why not drop in with the family and enjoy delicious cakes and drinks from the Women's Institute at the same time?

We will be at the Avenue Pavilion in Petersfield from 1.30 to 3.30pm – no need to book, just walk in. Like others around the UK, our Repair Café is a free service by the community for the community, all we ask for is a voluntary donation to cover set up costs and venue hire.

Fixing things doesn’t just feel good, it diverts waste from landfill and saves CO2 emissions embedded in making and disposing of consumer products.

The Petersfield Repair Café is a new venture in 2026 from PeCAN and started in March this year.  We’ve already helped more than 200 people, with all sorts of items fixed or assessed. These have included costume jewellery, garden furniture, coffee machines, laptops, garden shears and secateurs. Much loved and cherished items have had their lives extended. Many cakes have been consumed and plenty of advice given. Some people have been able to learn how to fix things themselves, others have been able to see how things are made and what can be repaired, what currently can’t, and why.

Examples of items you can bring include:

✂️ Scissors, knives, secateurs, shears, for sharpening and adjusting;
📻 Electrical items needing new plugs, soldering, general diagnosis, PAT testing;
💻 Small IT repairs and support;
🚴‍♀️ Bikes in need of simple work such as adjusting brakes, gears etc;
🪡 Garments and toys needing patches, sewing, darning;
💍 Costume or beaded jewellery in need of restringing, a new hook or clasp;
🪆 Wooden or plastic items which need to be glued back together

Don’t ditch it….fix it!
