On Sunday 17th July 2022, PeCAN held Petersfield’s first ever Eco Fair in collaboration with Petersfield Town Council.
This exciting event ‘celebrating earth-friendly living’ was a fun, informative day-out for all the family. We offered tips and ideas for reducing your carbon footprint - from saving energy in your home, upcycling clothes you no longer want or by getting back on your bike.
You could find out how to help increase biodiversity with good gardening practice or by letting your garden grow a little wilder. There were talks, an art exhibition, children’s activities and live music throughout the day, with a choice of food and drink and things to buy, all ethically-sourced and using minimum packaging.
We hope to be able to bring this event to Petersfield biennially, to alternate with an Eco Fair held by Alton Climate Action Network, in Alton.
The Petersfield Society presented PeCAN with a Certificate of Commendation following the success of the town's first Eco Fair in July.
The commendation read: At short notice PeCAN created the event from scratch, attracting forty stalls ranging from climate and conservation issues to home retrofitting and low waste living and including many enjoyable activities for children and adults. Recruiting a large number of volunteer marshalls, the organisation also had to deal with the challenge of one of the hottest weekends of the year. The fair was a great success, attracting about 1,000 visitors and it has hopefully created a template for repeat fairs on this important theme.
