Are you enthusiastic about giving our children and young people the best possible environmental education? Would you like to be part of a small team, supported by SDNP, who are helping schools do just that?

Petersfield Climate Action Network (PeCAN) is a young environmental charity with a respected education programme. Our small team have developed an excellent reputation for their schools outreach work with primary and secondary pupils, and have new funding from the SDNP to extend this to support schools with other aspects of sustainability, via help with policies and plans, CPD and events with parents.

We are looking for an additional lead for this education work, who will work with the current trustee lead to deliver a one-year pilot project based around East Hampshire and West Sussex. This could include being a PeCAN Trustee, but could alternatively be a lead role without trustee responsibilities. The role is supported by funded PeCAN office staff.

Our aim is to provide students of all ages with knowledge, understanding, and skills to help them navigate the future with resilience, confidence and wisdom. We want to empower them to make planet-friendly choices themselves, and enable them to amplify their voices in explaining those choices to others. We have developed excellent relationships with schools, and would like to extend our programme to include support with developing policies and activities to embed sustainable thinking across staff and parent communities.

Over the past two years we have delivered more than 100 transformative (and free) assemblies and workshops, reaching over 5,000 children, but with your help we could do much more.

Person profile: Professional familiarity with schools is essential, whether from a teaching or local authority background, as is an ability to communicate effectively with school leaders. A passion for sustainability is a given.

Time commitment: We expect the role will require a time commitment from a half-day a week. Given the spread of our outreach, you need not live near Petersfield, but may need to travel to schools, and any travel expenses will be reimbursed. You can read about our existing schools programme here.

If this could be you, please email rachel.ritchie@petersfieldcan.org for an informal discussion.

I write to say a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to you all for your recent Climate Change workshops, assembly and presentations ... The focus supported our eco schools, global citizenship and sustainability learning well. The sessions were well organised and led by a team of knowledgeable and passionate people who had the skills to interact well with the children …. you could tell that several had an educational teaching background and this made a big difference in terms of delivery.

...The impact on these sessions supports our work as we nurture tomorrow’s grown-ups! Input like this helps to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of this very important climate change agenda in the hope that the children will care for our planet in a sustainable way in the future. Regular sessions such as these, led by passionate experts, really help. Thank you. We would thoroughly recommend other schools and organisations connect with PeCAN.
