Bean talked about how to more efficiently heat our homes, the role of heat pumps and the urgent need for an energy transition to reduce dependence on finite fossil fuels and to lower carbon emissions.
These issues have never felt more prescient given the volatility of fuel prices and uncertainty in the world. This meant the event was very well timed to give people the information they needed to empower them to make decisions for their own homes.
Bean busted many of the myths surrounding heat pumps and talked about the pros and cons of the technology. He was also quick to point out that there is a whole range of measures we can take to reduce cost and lower emissions from existing boilers, and that there is no need to start immediately ripping things out!
The audience of nearly 50 people was highly engaged and had plenty of questions for Bean. It was very clear that people are keen to learn more, better understand the facts around heat pumps, and discover other things they can do to increase energy efficiency at home.
This event was part of PeCAN’s My Home Made Better project, where we offer free and impartial energy advice to the local community. After Bean’s talk many people signed up for a free energy advice session with one of PeCAN’s trained energy advisors.
